Learn the basics of Christian faith.

FAITH: part 1 of 5
Dr. George DIllard shares a message on the meaning of faith.

Message Series:  “Back To Basics”                                                           August 2, 2009
Message Title:  “Faith”
Main Idea:   Live out your faith

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
…All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.  People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.  If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.  Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.
Hebrews 11:1, 13-16 (NIV)

Our Faith is built upon the fact that…

All things are possible with God.

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.  Ephesians 3:20 (MSG)

Our Salvation is a result of what He has done.

But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved…through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.  Ephesians 2:4, 8b, 9 (NIV)

Our Response:
Action.

Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.  If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?  In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.  But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.  James 2:15-18 (NIV)
